Maybe Kastagir needs/wants the Pearl, and Connor's helping him out? Maybe Jack lost it again, and either Connor or Katagir owes him one?

Connor's been a smuggler and a gun-runner. He's not exactly the nicest of men, in some ways. Honorable, in his own way, but it *is* his way.
