upupa_epops requested Adult Hermione Headcanons, which was so much fun.(
Falling in love, falling in love...with Hermione Granger )

What mostly sets my alarm bells about Ron/Hermione is Ron's jealousy tbh. Ron is generally a good and loving person, but he has a terrible inferiority complex, and with a brilliant girl like Hermione, it just wouldn't work. Maybe I'm projecting, but I think he wouldn't feel good about her successes, especially academic. Hermione would end up either being mad at him all the time, or feeling guilty about being intelligent.

Ron's jealousy tbh
THIS!! And we so rarely saw him rise above it of his own accord! I mean, in DH he gets over his Harry/Hermione jealousy b/c Harry assures him that they're not together; that's not character growth. There's zero indication that if Harry/Hermione had been together, Ron would ever have been able to accept it in a mature manner (Han Solo he is not). And when he's jealous he gets so petty and vicious.

And you're not wrong about Hermione/Ron. tbh I don't get why JKR saying what she said deems her as a h8er since I'm pretty sure MOST long-term marriages would benefit from counselling. ~_o And Hermione and Ron always had a volatile relationship (the only thing I disagree with is that I think it's because they were always too SIMILAR, actually), so the two of them being together together would be a hot mess. ;) Sometimes you are just not a great fit with the people you happen to be madly in love with.

I did not get a lot of the flak that JKR got after that interview. Not only painting her as a hater but the expectation that an author isn't allowed to comment on her work after the fact. Like, IDGAF about whether or not the author is supposed to dead, at the end of the day they're still her characters and she can opine on them however she wants, just like readers can choose to ignore her. TBH I sort of had to just ignore most of the Tumblr stuff I saw about that interview because it made me ~see red.
And yeah, counseling definitely FTW.
because they were always too SIMILAR, actually
How do you mean? Like, too quick to give into their tempers?

Like, too quick to give into their tempers?
Pretty much. Too argumentative and spiteful (see: Hermione trying to make Ron jealous all through book 6) and emotionally immature and unwilling to appear vulnerable.

I do like when she opines on Snape, cause she does not put up with apologist crap heh heh.
All that romantic angst in book 6 was unfortunate. :/
