All her tension slid away, and Ruby felt herself grin. “The perks of male pregnancy never stop coming, do they.”
Bela composed herself enough to a make a straight face. More-or-less. “I don’t know why anyone would ever use any other method.”
:DDDD
“My cat,” said Bela
:D
The here-and-now stuff with Ruby and Bela made me giggle; the flashbacks made me cry. (Gah, the necklace. And Dean buying Ruby a t-shirt. I was all tears during the Christmas parts.)
I loved the back and forth between them and the occasional delight as one surprises the other with some cynical comment. These are two who both value cynicism as perhaps the most important character trait. (And yet they are both, unwillingly, more.)
And then this unintentionally pointed comment:
Instead of looking sympathetic, like Ruby would have expected from a human, Bela’s expression turned dismissive. “He just didn’t have time to disappoint you then.”
Obviously the world desperately needed some girltalk between these two. Brava. :)
I still adore this! Ruby and Bela have such chemistry, and their conversation flows and stumbles very realistically. Ruby's POV is great, I love her irreverence and sneakiness and hints of a softer side. I really like that Ruby's shown to be strongly motivated by loyalty, and her relationship with Lilith is so interesting. Now I'm wishing Ruby and Bela had met in the show, that would have been a delight to watch!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you think the conversation was realistic. I was a little self-conscious about writing 9,000 words of conversation, but I didn't want to shortchange how awkward it might be/how much time it might take for them to find some common ground. I cannot tell you how happy seeing them come to life in your art made me. <3 <3 <3

You know I was thinking of you the whole time I was writing that bit. *g*
I'm so happy you liked them together! They were so much fun to write as a pairing. And the Christmas stuff, I'm really glad you liked that. :D
