One Spuffy-based BtVS question today (although you can easily substitute in your Buffy OTP of choice) and two Whedonverse questions that I've been curious about for some time because these women have a lot of similarities and are both beloved by fandom; please only answer the latter two if you've seen both AtS and Dollhouse.

I prefer them not to be around not because of screentime or anything but I think by the end of Chosen they needed a good break from each other.

It could be interesting to see if/how their personalities changed when they weren't around each other all the time- maybe Willow would lose her inferiority complex, etc.

I think it's more like getting away from the normal circle for awhile. I like the AtS explanation because I think it set all of them in the natural course of where they were headed in S7. Xander needed to get out and experience the world, IMO. Might give him better perspective on the people around him. Buffy needed new people in her life and Willow off doing some soul-searching and maybe coming to terms with who she is.

Heh, I always saw Buffy going to England becoming friends with Olivia. I think it would do well for her to have an older, world-traveled friend she could talk to, who didn't know her, wouldn't judge and had no agendas.

Xander definitely could have used that different perspective. Maybe not as much in S7, but definitely in earlier seasons he could have benefitted from having non-Scooby acquaintances who didn't overlook all his jerkish, Nice Guy behavior the way Buffy and Willow consistently did.
