Ringer thoughts and SPN CC/JM pic

I realized a few days ago why I'm still having cognitive dissonance when I think of Ringer (besides the fact that if I'm watching SMG, I also expect to see James, Alyson, Nick, Michelle, Emma, and Tony on-screen) and why the little interview snippets and previews I watch aren't making me more excited.  All of SMG's co-stars are men.  There may be ( Read more... )

It is such a sweet, thought-provoking movie, and EC is adorable. Plus, Halfrek and Anya together again on-screen! I'm really glad it's available to buy now, 'cause it used to be prohibitively expensive.

I had never heard of Timer! I definitely want to watch it now, though. I'd love to see EC in other things.

Charisma Carpenter tweeted this photo of her and James from the SPN set.

This casting makes me sooo happy. Spike! And Cordelia! Interacting with my Winchesters!

I wonder if either of them will survive the episode... *g*

Timer is excellent, and it is both available on instant play on Netflix and now sold cheaply on Amazon. It's a fantasy set in an alternate world where you can choose to get a timer embedded in your wrist that will count down the days until you meet your soulmate. The science may be wonky, but the premise is thought-provoking. EC is adorable, and it also stars Kali Rocha, who played Halfrek/Cecily (my eyes popped so wide when I saw her appear on-screen next to EC). You'll have to let me know what you think if you do watch it!

I had a spazz attack all over LJ a few days ago when I found out the SPN casting news. I was already excited about all the excellent television I had to look forward to this fall, and now I'm even more impatient. I expect they'll both survive, although I know it's currently a one-off guest appearance. Have you seen the episode description? It seems like it will be more of a fun, campy, soap opera type episode than a serious, creepy one.

I haven't read the description; I try to avoid spoilers if at all possible.

And I will definitely look up Timer! It sounds like something the roommate might want to watch with me. She was watching P.S. I Love You the other day and I sat down for a while because, James Marsters! Jeffrey Dean Morgan! But I couldn't bear it. The schmaltzy drama was just too much.

Timer, however, sounds like it might have a better sense of humor. :)

*zipping lips about SPN*

I've seen P.S. I Love You, and Timer definitely has a better sense of humor. It's also an indie film, so it doesn't necessarily conform to Hollywood standards of what makes a good romantic movie. PSILY was such a huge disappointment. I actually saw it in theaters with my BFF (also a JM fangirl), and I was doubly disappointed because the book is actually really good and not schmaltzy. Plus, JM's character has a much more important role in the book, and they gave a lot of his stuff to Lisa Kudrow instead (I don't know how much of it you watched, but frex, if you saw a scene where Lisa Kudrow tells off the self-absorbed MC and motivates her to start living again, that scene should have been JM's). You can probably tell I'm bitter.

Cognitive dissonance is a good phrase for Ringer while the show has two strong female leads, both are played by SMG, which weirds me out a little. I can also admit to having a childhood crush on Ioan Gruffudd, because he played Horatio Hornblower in some A&E/BBC productions we watched as a family when I was 11. Being a Lost fan, I'm also excited to see Nestor Carbonell, though his resemblance to Freddy is the most obvious.

Yay for other Buffy cast projects, though! I plan on following snickfic's "good parts" version of season 6 so I can watch season 7 of SPN as it airs. I'm also finding fascinating articles on the SPN fandom and the show's interaction with the fans, so I'm excited for that.

And James Marsters remains the only man I get blushy by just looking at pictures of him. Can't imagine ever meeting him in person!

It is strange that she plays both female leads, no matter how much I love SMG. Another problem for me is that from what I've seen, none of the characters are nice. Even Bridget, the MC, doesn't seem nice. Intelligent, desperate, and conniving sure, but no sign of kindness (which isn't to say we won't see it eventually). And while that might not matter to a lot of fans, I like seeing courtesy and consideration for others in fiction as much as in real life, and I grow disinterested very quickly in a show where I can't relate to any of the characters. Still looking forward to it, but I have a lot of reservations before I declare myself a Ringer fangirl, instead of just a SMG fangirl.

I've stayed out of SPN fandom cause I'm only in S2, but from fandom osmosis, I have gotten the impression that the writers and producers take fans seriously, which is a breath of fresh air compared to some of the other dramas I watch. Are these articles you're finding for your independent study work?

It will be nice to get double SMG, but yes, it is strange. I'm glad that JM and CC look like they're still friendly with each other, and they're both still so pretty!
