Couple of days ago I got to reading about this being proposed for deployment to police in the UK. It makes me yearn for the days of a good old truncheon to the back of the head. Tasers have the exact same problem as firearms or any other weapon carried by police officers: if they're there, they will be used and, as time goes by, the conditions under which a Taser will be used get broader and broader.

This video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wYEBd-Mpus) is a classic example: four big, burly Mounties could have easily subdued this fella but they'd rather not get their hands dirty, so out comes the Taser. And the guy dies.
