Early Influences

Bless my poor neglected journal. It has been 24 days since my last entry. (To sum up, not dead-- just writing)

Wow, I think this is a pretty neat exercise. I never thought of myself as a 'writer', although I loved writing even more than my other artsy hobbies. Adam was the first person in my life to describe me as a 'writer' and it felt weird. Writers smoke pipes, are middle-aged men, and wear tweed. I never embraced the tag.

Uh, and... all the books that spurred me to write were filthy...

I'm not much for labels in general. It always feels like trying to put on clothes that don't fit when someone wants me to pick one. I kind of think of labels as stage roles that people see me in throughout the day-- none of them really sum up "Me". Hell, I don't even use my name(s) inside my head except in relation to other people.

I find labels useful for answering questions that can't be answered. If someone doesn't have stories and characters stuck inside them they have no idea what that's like-- but you can say "I'm a writer" and they can be "oh right, you're a little weird" and everyone can go on with life.

There's nothing wrong with filthy. :) I'd link to it anyway. At worst I'd put a "This entry is probably safe for work but Zofia is not" :P
