The City, The Bar, The Conference

(Nick)Names like The City and The Bar both amuse and annoy me -- "The Bar on Castro" may be (barely) descriptive name, but isn't it a bit like calling your dog Dog? Wow, the review committee must be vury vury busy. I even felt like 500 words was too small a limit for an RFP we issued a couple years back.

But yay for the Carolinas! When is this conference?

Nov. 5-8. They haven't told me when in there I'll be speaking. I'm also not sure whether I'll come for the whole conference or just pop in long enough to do my talk. :p

There's a lake in Minnesota that is appropriately (and now legally) called The Lake. A wealthy business bought the land all the way around it a few years back to build resorts, and had the lake renamed. I wonder if he ever built his facilities and called the The Resort? I should look it up.
