New Yorker, Part Deux

Apr 16, 2011 07:54

In case you haven't seen the New Yorker article (on George, GRRMLins, FTBG and Is Winter Coming?) already, it seems as if the full article is now online. (I'm guessing once the next week's issue came out, they stopped caring so much.)  I have to say, I'm a big fan of the FTBG-inspired cartoon.  Anyway, read it at your leisure.

Also, I am officially ( Read more... )

new yorker, hbo

What's up Liotta! Did you guys ever think this blog would make you famous? Holy shit, right? Anyway congrats, salud! I read most of the article skimmed through the rest. My favorite part....."He is committed to nurturing his audience, no matter how vast it gets. “It behooves a writer to be good to his fans,” he says.".............What bullshit!! Brotherhood without Banners...... such fags too! Gaiman can eat a dick, so can that Garcia guy. I didn't know that "Slynt" is a Norwegian dude, that's cool I guess. Seriously if it wasn't for you guys all us "detractors" wouldn't have a voice. Grazie Paisans! And Tussen takk or whatever to you Slynt.

To be fair, the show was really good. If you can find a way to watch it, I highly recommend it.

The show was good. They changed one thing for the bad (the prologue, it's better as Martin wrote it, but it needed a full supernatural fight and HBO probably was out of budget on it); and two things for the good: Cat is better than in the books, more coherent. And Drogo is a brute all the way around all the time (just what I feared and expected the first time I read the book). They lack enough budget, but the acting is great ( ... )

I felt that the whole Dany/Drogo relationship was not nearly as good as in the books. In the tv series, it seemed like she was getting raped on her wedding night when in the books it was obviously consensual (and kind of sweet).

Jaime was spot-on, though -- in acting and appearance. Catelyn looked a little older than I imagined. And Jon Snow looked nothing like I thought he would. And Cersei? What a babe.

It was different to the books, but I think it was better. It made no sense that a bestial guy like Drogo would caress Dany on the wedding night and "ride her" all the rest of them. Martin changed Drogo so the wedding night wouldn't be so horrible for the reader, but afterwards Drogo is a brute again all the time. It made no sense, was incoherent with the character. The HBO has made Drogo a bestial guy full time, and that's far more believable than what we got in the books.

Cat's motherly side overwhelming the dutiful side from the beginning is also better. It's more coherent with what she does afterwards. Those two characters just got better, more well-rounded, I think.

Game of Thrones" is a no-go at this station. I got 20 minutes into it and had to turn it off because it was making me so angry ( ... )

I just watch it thinking it's the story of how Lannisters won the war and Starks lost it. Get yourself used to the idea that the story is like that, and you'll be happy. I'll be content with three seasons, up to A Storm of Swords, and think the books are a trilogy until proven otherwise. It's the most original trilogy ever, the bad guys won and the good ones were left scattered throughout the world.

Hey, if I get angry I have two problems: getting angry and getting over it. I'd rather think of A Song as a finished trilogy. It's awesome that way.
