Okay, maybe Rickon doesn't count as a "moment." but to be honest, I don't give a fuck. It's been years (I think) since I've issued a top-quality Liotta-style rant about this kid, and frankly, it's high time we all recognized the inclusion of this Muppet for what it really is: George pandering to his audience and to a long line of crappy adventure ( Read more... )

I think too many people have given fantasy/sci-fi writers leeway with regards to children acting way, way, way older than their age. Orson Scott Card got away with it in Ender's Game, but then again that was a book about children GENIUSES, so maybe it wasn't that far-fetched.

I wonder how this list of terrible moments is going to end:) ASOIAF has hundreds of POVs, and I truly hate some of them, but it is like the real life, not every guy is cool and not every girl is hot and/or smart. As many of you, I too let's say dislike the "Catelyn" "Cersei" or "Briene" kind of women, and i would gladly punch prince... whaterever his name was, the son of cersei (was there a cersei in the story?) in the stomach, but on the other hand, I have seen a couple of Cerseis and a bunch of Rickons, even some Briennes in real life. You can't avoid meeting annoying people in streets, in cinemas, you have to deal with them in banks or in offices etc ( ... )

Not to nitpicking, but ASOIAF has abbot 25-30 POV characters not 100s...

just wondering if we need 3 Top Ten Worst lists; one for moments, one for characters and one for the 10 worst things GRRM has done with regard to the series. Three times as many opportunities to rant!

Sounds like Ray has picked up the 10 worst characters spot (if they go that way). Joey could do 10 worst events (which would, of course, have to include all of those same characters; crappy events are seldom instigated by awesome people. Either that, or we're more willing to forgive Jon doing/saying something stupid because a lot of the time, it will result in him doing something passably cool) and the 10 worst things GRRM has done can be filled out by us, the readers.

Or, you know, do it however you want. You know, on your blog.

Wow. Glad you brought this topic up actually. Each time I think of the stark family I always wander back to Rickson and the only question anyone really has about him. What the hell is his purpose.....As opposed to Bran who everyone wonders when his purpose is going to actually begin....Same goes with Arya, Sansa, and Jon come to think of it. All the Starks are losers, lets be honest. Much better to be a lanister. If the Starks don't get some long needed justice by next book I'm going to be pissed.

Very funny, but I think we all know there will be another book....eventually. Its just the story that won't ever get finished.
