Two Things Plus One (Or, Three Things)

First off, a thanks to our Finnish compatriot VonLent, who posted this to our comments section, and I thought it was worth some extra attention:

An Update From FinlandIn an interview with Finnish website Helsingin Sanomat, GRRM has said he hopes now to finish ADWD by the end of the year and to complete The Winds of Winter in three years.

Translinkerated from NaB, pictures of The Great One's appearance at a bookstore:

That ought to give the PhotoShop wizards at the above-referenced Facebook page plenty of fodder.

There's even a bonus pic of Parris popping some pills. And, yes, I do appreciate any avenue for alliteration.

Parris looks about 70, haggard and ill-used. GRRM appears as the stereotypical obese and complacent nerd, the sort of person who boasts that he doesn't care what others think of him, but probably should. His stubby arms are much diminished by his protruding girth. Also, note the rapt and reverential expressions on the faces of the watching Finns. No wonder GRRM is so self-satisfied and unmotivated. He gets smothered with reverence everywhere he goes.

Nice pic of the cute girl in the audience. The rest was 'bleah'.

Oh and it's kind of funny to me that he's having to go to Finland to get the kind of response he wants from his fans now.

Which response?

The same he gets in his NAB?
The only difference in my eyes is that he actually sees the questioners and that these are human beings, sometimes surprisingly nice ones, and so he allows inquiry on books.

The picture of the girl sitting on a young man's lap? That was a pretty good picture. The light on their faces was just right.

I have to admit that, several years ago, I saw El Beardo do a reading and he was fairly engaging. I can't imagine that I'd enjoy it so much any more, though.

Fuck. I was in Finland and I actually bumped into the kids in costume on the metro (subway) and got off where they did but I did not attend the Finncon.

Motherfucker, if I had known Sir-Eats-A-Lot was there...I would actually go and talked smack to his face.

Meh.
