“All work and no play gets a book done on time.”

Never has a statement so engulfed what we are dealing with here.  Based on one of GRRM’s latest post on his Not-A-Blog (now to be referred to as the Captain’s Log, ( Read more... )

No, George, you have been cavalier to your fans. You do have an offhand manner in which you treat your readers. I am sure that in public you are polite to your readers, allowing them to buy your books and to sing your talent. You allow them to buy you gifts and to wine and dine you. But when you stand behind the wall of the NaB, we do see flashes of the disdain that you deny. An early demonstration was to stop informing the world as to your progress. I laugh out loud whenever I read your blog. It sure helps with the frustration over the book. This is great, keep it up!

Thought I'd also point out that it appears GRRM, while having finished the Vance anthology, appears to be taking on other projects to replace it. The following is a quote from Jacqueline Carey's December 2008 update on her website:

"And in the spirit of the season, I have a few gifts to share. First up, a piece of news for all of you who've asked me over the years if I ever plan to write about Anafiel Delaunay's history. Well, I received an invitation from George R.R. Martin to contribute a novelette to an anthology called Star-Crossed Lovers, and despite an already busy schedule, I couldn't resist the lure of serendipity. It's going to be a long time coming (the delivery date isn't until next October), but yes, I will be telling Delaunay and Rolande's story at last."
