From Brazil, With Love

LeYa, my Brazilian publisher, and a small army of my Brazilian readers sent me this video as a birthday greeting:

I don't know what to say. I am astonished. Charmed. Flattered. And maybe just a little bit terrified.

I really do need to make it down to Brazil one of these days.

(And they used one of my favorite songs, too).

foreign editions, fame, fandom

Yeah, well, we are many, and you have a large public in here. It seems that people forget how big Brazil is and how we can be passionate. There's something very genuine, very honest about our affection. You can see it in the video. Some people don't know how to pronunciate, but it doesn't matter, they just want to send you a little bit of their emotions, a little bit of gratitude.

Watching this video made me very happy! I'm sure you would be very welcomed here in Brazil. And don't worry, we won't be using masks... probably.

Hello George, my name is Matheus and I'm Brazilian. I read the first book of A Song of Ice and Fire in 2011 when I was 16 and now with almost 22 I still think daily in his incredibly well-made world with all his fascinating characters. I, like all Brazilians, am glad that you enjoyed the tribute, the amount of hardcore fans there is really impressive. So I want to thank you so much for making me an unconditional fan of your incredible work, thank you for introducing me to your world. I already considered myself a fan of fantasy because of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but now, thanks to his books, I can say that I am a big fan of all that genre. Now I'm studying journalism at university and during that six years I've known your books, my admiration for you as a writer only increases. Anyway, thank you for giving me the opportunity to live the thousand lives that a reader lives.
Sorry if English is bad, I'm using Google Translate. But I had to thank him, George. Thanks for everything
