Three Years and Counting

Hard to believe, but we are coming up on the third anniversary of the re-opening of the Jean Cocteau Cinema. Santa Fe's hometown movie theatre, and first art house, had been dark for seven years when we turned on the lights again and opened the doors in August 2013.

Needless to say, that calls for a celebration... a week-long celebration, in ( Read more... )

We thank you! ljw87505 July 27 2016, 19:02:08 UTC
You've done so many amazing things for our city! At the JCC, I've seen Neil Gaiman w/ Amanda (twice), William Gibson, and tons of other great authors. We love the movies you play and my daughters love the funky anime movies that come by.

You've further enriched us with your contributions to Meow Wolf--which we love.

And, as a JCC upstairs tenant, I appreciate that you don't pull out your broadsword and start muttering about Ned Stark if we've ever late on our rent : ) (just kidding--don't kick us out).

In honor of your 3rd year anniversary, I think Vice President Joe Biden just gave you and Dorne a subtle nod in his DNC speech today.

He said:

"We never bow, we never bend, we never break when confronted with crisis. No! We endure! We overcome! And we always, always, always move forward."

Congrats on the anniversary! I hope that someday, some of your Minions or even you yourself might come to Montreal to peruse the cinematic offerings at Fantasia, the mix of cult, horror, Asian, weird and strange that is quite rightly lauded as the best genre film festival in the world. (I usually write it as FantAsia because it began as mostly Asian films, but I'm learning to reduce the "A" to "a" in comments outside of its realm.) Just a suggestion (which I think I make every year to you around FantAsia time {g}) - don't let your bad memories of WorldCon in Montreal dismiss this totally different and entirely wonderful festival out of hand!

George, sorry for the OT comment. Just wondered if you watched Joe Biden's speech at the Democratic convention. He ended it with "“We never bow, we never bend, we never break".

Jean Cocteau was great! ext_3706957 July 28 2016, 12:28:29 UTC
Hi George!

I had the pleasure of stopping by the Jean Cocteau on my way to California this summer. My fiancee and I went to a really late showing, so we were the only ones there. The theater is excellent, though, and the staff was really friendly. Walked away with some gold dragons, signed books, and the experience of an okay movie.

Also ate at Maria's at your recommendation. Delicious!
