Thank you for posting this. I've read a lot of good sci fi last year and some not so good. Here we go again. I still think you're the best, though. :)

Worldcon Volunteering Recommendations ext_3499888 January 31 2016, 11:05:23 UTC
My wife and I have recently moved to Norway for school, making Helsinki's Worldcon seem like a great chance to go to one nearby. We are also pretty big on volunteering and would love to volunteer there. We have never been to a Worldcon (or other fandom type of convention) and would like to really get to know the culture behind the whole thing. So I was wondering if you might know of any specific volunteering roles or activities we should apply for to get the most out of the experience?

Volunteers are always needed at worldcon, and it's a great way to get to know people.

Depends on the con, where they need help most... but registration and progam ops are two areas often in need of volunteers.

Hugo Voting aside, is there a limit to the number of members who can participate in a con and thus a deadline for getting a membership for 2017 at all? Because whether I'll go to Helsinki is something I'd likely decide in late spring 2017. :-)

I don't need accomodation in the Con hotels - I actually prefer to get out of it for a few hours now and then because I don't do well with crowds, so I'd rather book my own room somewhere quiet.

No, there's no cap on worldcon membership. Compared to mega-cons like Dragoncon and San Diego Comicon, worldcons are still quite small.

Being American has nothing to do with worldcon membership. It's WORLDcon. The one in 2017 is in Finland.

Thanks for the deadline reminder! This will be my first Worldcon. Can't miss out when it's less than a 5 hour drive away.
