Last Year (Travel and Conventions)

I did a lot of travelling last year. Probably too much. You don't have to chide me about that. I know, believe me, I know. I am trying to cut down on travel this year and in subsequent years, at least until Ice & Fire is done ( Read more... )

These blog posts are great. Helping me get work done tonight, while I periodically read the Cliffnotes.

I'm copying exactly what i posted on a reddit thread on these updates. This post really hit me hard.

"That last post made me kind of sad. My husband has never been able to travel. The furthest he has been from where he was born is 3 hours. If he was suddenly handed the ability to do whatever he wanted, he would too. GRRM is given all these amazing opportunities, do you really think any of us would be different? He wants to travel, he wants to go to these things but he feels chained to his computer, so of course writing now feels like a chore. Who is excited to do chores? As much as I want the series to end and for him to finish his books, I would never want someone to sacrifice their happiness for the pleasure I get from a story. Sure this will make a lot of you mad, but everyone deserves happiness. Most of us would do the same thing in his position."

Forgive your fans. We're can be such a**holes but we do love you and wish you happiness. Thank you for everything. Even if you do not write the rest of the series, it still was a lot of fun and I do not regret a minute that I have invested in your work, Mr. George. You can ignore this comment and not approve it in your blog, but I really just want you to know.

It's important, I think, for a writer to travel as much as possible. Staying in one place is god awful for the imagination. It's not healthy because you begin to write too much of yourself and the results can end up, while no less beautiful, quite depressing. This is something I know from experience. Think: the Brontë siblings.
