We've had the most snow I've seen since I've moved her to Scandinhoovia -- ten years, and nothing remotely like this. Crazy weather. (Yes, I blame global warming).
I saw the news about FFG's new board game, "Battles of Westeros". Sounds very cool (for those who want more info, see here, and check the Hopeless Gamer front page, he has a couple more pictures up since I posted detailing the Stark and Lannister "hero" characters). Very tempting.
The other board game is more strategic, and never quite caught my fancy, but this one... Maybe a better route to just use an existing battle system such as BattleLore; it was a shame Testors never got anywhere with their own tactical game. That all said, I can't imagine the people who spend their time actually painting all these little army figures, though. Too bad they can't produce those pre-colored somehow, I think it'd greatly broaden the appeal (but probably, also, the cost).
George answered a question about Texas signings a little bit earlier. See here. That said, Game of Thrones is a good while back now. I'm going to guess a new signing event in a Texas store would probably work a _lot_ better now...
From advice that GRRM and Parris have given in the past, when there's a new signing tour in the offing, lobby your local booksellers to get in touch with the relevant publisher and request that GRRM make an appearance. Point out that he hasn't appeared at a booksigning in Texas since 1996, and this could be a major bookselling event for them. Hopefully Bantam'll reconsider. :)
Thank you! Not sure how I missed that, altho considering that "The Austin signing had a mediocre turnout, but at Houston and Dallas, the attendance was abysmal." .... Yes, Austin's chances seem slim, but perhaps not nonexistent. Thanks again! I will take your advice and start gentle pestering.
Weather? Don't talk to me about weather! It hit 78 degrees here today - and it's supposed to SNOW on Tuesday! At least your weather seems to be seasonally consistent...
And yes, put me down as another vote for an Austin visit if at all possible!
