Rose Meringues

Dec 03, 2012 20:57

The holidays arrived and I was like HEY I SHOULD MAKE FOOD PRESENTS, but of course what came to mind was something I’d never tried before. Rose-flavored meringues, you guys! Pink, and maybe in the shape of roses, delicate yet shippable, and related to Portland.

I made my first attempt over the weekend, with one of the eggs from my co-worker’s happy ( Read more... )

Hahaha - pink sparkly unicorn poop! Reminds me of Agnes, the little girl in Despicable Me, who said "He's so fluffy, I'm gonna die!"

Thrift shops are a good place to look for cake decorating, piping type supplies.

I think a Play Doh Meringue Factory would have been awesome in this case.

I'm angry you didn't use the shellynoir scientific method of totally ruining recipes and having one rose batch, one rose vanilla batch, one rose cardamom batch, one rose red zinger tea batch,

Ugh writing up my labs experiments are what made me decide not to major in science.

If you find plastic unicorns at the goodwill you can accompany them with a meringue and a little pooper scooper.

Play Doh Factory (and Barber Shop) is one of the toys I coveted but never got. I bet the grown-up culinary versions are cooler. Same with Sno-cone maker.

Hee, that's the first I've heard of Despicable Me. I like the title.

I was lazy and ordered a piping tip from Amazon, but if it turns out I need connectors or bags to go with, I'm definitely hitting the thrift store.

Sparkly unicorn poop sounds great. Perhaps you could add chunks of cuisinart-shredded gumdrops (I'm thinking of a unicorn grazing on fruitcake -- what kind of unicorn poop would that make?).

BTW, I have the impression that whipping egg whites into meringue is more difficult, but not impossible, with granulated sugar.

sanguinity skips the cake part of fruitcake and just buys the candied fruit to eat.

I have now tried all granulated sugar and it seemed to work okay. I also didn't bother with cream of tartar, which is supposed to stabilize the fluffy.

Haha, I've had this experience with making food as gifts. I don't know why it always seems like a good idea to try something new for that!

I also tend to lose the recipe after I've successfully made and sent something.

This sounds like something I would do.

You would persist through many batches, and I hope to model myself on that. :)
