How do we know Des had no business being on the plane? The characters in the parallel universe had different pasts from the ones from the original universe.
Where did you hear the Losties were in 1997? And how does the parallel universe help to explain that?
I was thinking the same thing about the list from the Ankh.
I think Richard was a slave on the Black Rock.
And I think the people at the temple were trying to keep Smokey out of the temple.
I hated Charlie because he irritated me right from the Pilot. I always thought he was a bit pathetic but couldn't work up any sympathy for him, until they killed him off!
You're absolutely right, we don't know anything about why Des was on the plane, it just felt wrong that he was there as though the writers were going 'you know what would be funny? To have Des on the plane and then pop off through time so no one knew where he was!'
I didn't actually mean 1997 at all, I meant 2007, I have no idea why I ended up a decade out!
