Question for Flist--Twitter

Sep 16, 2009 09:20

Ok, so I'm working on getting more into Twitter and Facebook. I think LJ will always be my venue of choice. But #luciferiscoming and #vancon and @mishacollins has turned my anti-Twitter to a maybe-Twitter.

I think I've asked this before, but I believe more LJ folks are getting onto Twitter (likely mostly due to @mishacollins).

So I'm going to try ( Read more... )

facebook, rl, poll, flist question, twitter, social networking

Yea, I'm just trying to figure both of them out actually. I've always been more on LJ than anything else.

This is EXACTLY the type of info I was looking for.

And yea, I forgot about employers and searching the internet. I've always been very conscious about that. It's not that I feel I have anything to hide--I don't. But what someone might randomly find online, taken out of context with the "whole, real me" could be very easily misconstrued.

Thanks for your response. Reminds me why I originally kept them separate.

I started this morning seriously considering combining everything into one personae.

And I've ended the day by taking steps to definitively separate the personaes on FB, Twitter, and LJ by user ID and email as well. I need my "safe" space to be silly without worrying about my professional appearance.

And yea, context is everything I think. People who know me through work would likely know all about my "silly" hobby. But they would know it *from* me, not from some random search where they find "lucifer is rising". heh.

I have FB friends from LJ, but they're all people I know well and have known for a long time, and I trust them to keep it pretty low key about fandomish things. There might be someone posting about Show coming back or such, but that's about it.

I actually read Misha's tweets, but I just check in on what he's up to once in a while. I find Twitter is just too much for me, at least for now.

ETA: Forgot to mention that I also have Jim, Traci and Aldis friended on FB and belong to a couple fannish groups, so that's another way I don't really keep it separate.

(darnit, I need to find that lucifer image--i'm so bad...)

So LJ & Twitter are more for fandom. But I just set up a "professional" Twitter account as well, since I've begun to network through Twitter. And Facebook is for non-fandom RL (mostly friends/family, but also professional friends as well.)

i look at misha's (and other rec'ed) twitter(s) only occasionally. (nothing annoys me more than those LJ posts where ppl tweet their every hour == who the heck cares == but i digress.) i just don't find anyone/thing so fascinating that i have to follow their every move (hello - groupie?). LMAO, on the other hand, i attend all those cons so let's just say i'm a fan of irony

i've had a facebook account for so long i don't even know WHERE i got that username, so obviously don't even get in there at all.
i like my privacy.

i guess LJ's my fandom place of choice....and apparently i'm old school, as i prefer email and/or the telephone.

Yea, I'm old school too. It's taken me a while to accept the Twitter and txting revolution, but I've gone kicking and whining the whole way!

like i said on twitter.. i'm keeping it fandom wise.. only cause then i can do or say fandom related stuff and don't need to explain to RL people. they think i've lost it anyway.. oh if they knew the truth and the real extend.. hehehe
