And again I'm home, this time from a trip to an SCA event in Rochester. I had an excellent time on all sorts of fronts, even though the event was not as sinful as advertised

I think I live near-ish to you. If ever you need me to chill with the kitties I can help out. I wouldn't mind hanging out waiting for the kitty to finish his food. I can't imagine he much enjoys yarking.
Thanks *very* much- that's a heck of an offer! I may take you up on it, if I'm feeling really heartless and less embarrassed about my house than usual.
Have you tried him on semi-moist cat food? It's more expensive than dry but it might be cheap enough to just feed to all of the cats whien you're away, if Eek can stomach it. I used to feed semi-moist to a cat I had years ago (you might remember Toby, the Maine coon who used to go to Pennsic way back when) whose urinary tract issues prevented him from eating dry food, but he didn't like canned so we had to go with semi-moist.
Is there a space bigger than a bathroom that you can give him, like the third floor? (I forget if you have a door there.)
Would it be possible for Eek to go to someone else's house while you're gone, or would that freak him out too much? Erik now stays with a friend when I have to go away (he needs medicine twice a day), and that's been working out pretty well for him.
Is it dry food itself that makes him barf, or is it something about the usual composition? Vets have all sorts of special diets in dry foods; I wonder if there's something you could use for all of them while you're away that would be easier on him. (Or the semi-moist, as Arianna said. Mine used to love Tender Vittles back when it was still gettable; I don't have experience with any others.)
I don't know- two different dry foods make him barf, but I haven't tried any vet special blends. That's certainly worth doing, especially if there's a version for cats with digestive problems.
We had a similar problem with dry food and Kipling, although there were no other cats in the picture. It was still, eventually, impossible to get her through a weekend with us away unless our cat sitter stayed extra time to make sure Kipling ate enough of the wet food, and was able to keep the food down. If it came up again not long after she ate, that meant she needed to get subcutaneous IV fluids the same day, so we would pay for the sitter's time to get this done at the vet's. It was pretty hard on everyone

Yup, the same. Been hanging out on LJ now and then for a couple of years now, I guess. Since blogging's never been much of my thing I don't use that function, but I enjoy keeping up with the gang this way.
Still playing bass-got a polka-band gig this weekend.

They don't sell semi-moist at a lot of grocery stores much any more, but the Internet says Petco has a Meow Mix variant: http://www.best-price.com/productsearch/search/q/moist+cat+food
