I know the feeling - phone use doesn't bother me in the ads, irritates me a bit in trailers (since I generally want to watch them) and annoys the piss out of me in the film itself.

I know some people it doesn't bother, but little seeing flashes of light out of the corners of my eye I find *deeply* distracting.

Incidentally I've also noticed a sharp downturn in technical issues over the past few months as well at Cineworld - 6-8 months ago it was pretty bad and it seemed I was having to go out and moan at an usher every other show but as I think on it I've not had to do that at all in a while now.

Regarding the rest of it... you're right, it is outrageous that MPAA are even suggesting that they should have such capabilities.

I do get tempted to hang it all and bin the cinema, especially as home cinema gear gets cheaper, but I'd never be allowed to insist on a 'no device' policy at home either when watching a film :D

Man - I forgot about the ads! Well, the regular ads don't bother me that much, they've always been there - it's the endless advertising of the cinema itself that gets to me. There's the "there's still time to go and buy a coke at the concessions stand" spot, and the "buy an unlimited card" spot, and the "go to our website and get a discount" spot, and the Ray Winstone "I like cops and robbers - isn't the experience of cinema great?" spot, and the "wouldn't it be a shame if everyone watched pirated films at home and the cinemas closed down" spot, and the "we do subtitles and audio descriptions" spot, and the "we also do theatre and sporting events" spot, and the YES, YES, I'm already at the bloody cinema! You don't need to convince me to go to the cinema - you need to put these adverts on the TV to get people who aren't already here here. In fact, these make me want to not come any more. Not to mention the Kevin Bacon(s) EE spot which used to be the Orange spot but doesn't even tell you to turn your phone off anymore spot.

And yet still not as annoying as the 'don't pirate DVDs' tags that only appear on DVDs that you've.Already.Bloody.Bought.

With the irony being, of course, that pirated DVDs are less annoying because they don't bother to include those tags.

Unless they include this one.

I'm reminded of the Mary Whitehouse experience but could be wrong. I agree with all of your rant but add in the crazy cost of a cinema ticket if you don't have a monthly pass. I found an old cinema ticket from ten years ago (first date with the now hubby so kept for nostalgia) cost of ticket 3.50. Now double that.

Yup. That's just over 7%/year. Which is double inflation. For 10 straight years.

Man tell me about it - I've had a cineworld card for years now so haven't paid for tickets in *ages* (aside from occasional top-ups for IMAX shows, to which £4 or so always seemed not-unreasonable). I took my niece to the cinema last week and a kid's ticket was north of £7 - was appalled!

I found out this Sunday that a kid's ticket is £6 on the morning "early bird". I thought they'd made a mistake at first, and not given the discount for being a morning show.

Even the unlimited card has gone up by 80% since they introduced it.
