Movie Review - Star Trek - Into Darkness

After 5 separate TV series franchises, and 11 previous movies, it seems stupid to complain that this sequel to a reboot is overly-derivative and unnecessarily cheesy, but it's true.

As the tribble got given some of the super blood, Star Trek 3 is clearly going to be "Attack of the Tribbles", right?

I was kind of enjoying it, putting aside the original series references and just going with the flow, until the bit where Zachary Quinto did his impression of William Shatner's most famous line. Then I just got the giggles, which I'm not sure they were going for in that scene

Tell me, do they still sing songs of The Great Tribble Hunt? :-)

But, yes, I had a massive cringing attack rather than a fit of the giggles. Not quite the same reaction, but damn it, that line Just Did Not Work.

(what were they thinking, having Spock say "let me introduce you to the Earth custom known as 'kissing'"?!? ;-) )

I enjoyed the film so long as I didn't think too much on it - it gives good entertainment. There were a couple of things that kept out at me, including the aforementioned lack of commonality between "that which was" Nd "that which is"...

And that bit... THAT bit was most definitely a homage too far and completely ruined what little drama remained after the Tribble.

However, whatever else I enjoyed the film a lot and really didn't hope for anything more.
