We had a thunderstorm today and a goddamn lightning hit somewhere near my place. My TV and comp are both gone, I'm afraid. Absolutelly nothing works ('cept my phone and luckily the fridge ( Read more... )

I'm sorry to hear that. Lightning can be very dangerous to computers, I always pull the plug when there's a heavy storm. But if you're lucky only the power unit of your PC got fried. If it's a good one it should've kept the surge from the other parts. Or maybe it isn't that bad? Maybe the problem is outside and the electricity company produces less which is enough for fridge and phone but not TV and computers? I don't know much about that stuff.

I unplug everything too whenever I can. This time, well... I'm taking the computer to the service and then I'll be sure how great the damage is. My guess is that only the power got fried, as you said, and that my data is still safe somewhere in there. Or so I hope. :/

Thanks for the comment, it was really helpful.

Wow, is it gone gone, like fried? :| My computer did that once and I hated it. :( I hope you can come back soon!

Yeah. :( What happened to yours? I mean, could you salvage something from it, or was everything gone?

I hope this to be over soon. For now I have internet access, but it's pretty limited.

We had to send it in to HP, so they could fix it. My whole motherboard was fried. :|

I'm sorry Jessy. :( Hopefully it wasn't too expensive.

Oh no, what rotten luck! :(

I must admit it's one of the things I'm a bit paranoid about, and like psychosim, I always unplug my computer when it's stormy. Hopefully he's right, and perhaps it's just the power supply that's gone.

All the best in getting things sorted out, and hope to see you back soon.

Bad luck indeed. I think I've learned one important lesson. I hope that it's not a big thing and that I won't have to start from the scratch. Besides Sims projects, I also had other important stuff in that PC.
