May 20, 2009 22:04

Tonight at Grizzy's Cafe, we had a discussion about responsible behavior in a virtual world. I have saved a transcript. I have edited out extraneous comings and goings.

Yeah, I wish you had been there, because I knew you would have had a lot of good things to add to the discussion, which you did.

I don't think the percentage is as small as he thinks it is but he is right that SL hasn't changed it but certain aspects of it don't help it, either.

Yeah, he seems to think I was saying that SL was causing the abusive behavior, when I don't think that all. I think that engaging in it repeatedly in virtual reality is not helping and may even be perpetuating it.

There is a possibility that SL allows people to experiment with fantasies but he is wrong that there is no cure for harmful sexual activities. There are ways to rehabilitate sex addicts and sex criminals.

Yeah, again I made the point somewhere in there that if you get off on pretending to rape women, maybe you should be seeing a psychiatrist rather than finding ways to indulge that without *actually* raping people. That seems like just plain common sense to me, but that got ignored.

He probably doesn't realize the way X rated movies have ( ... )
