The location is an old warehouse. Water drips down from busted pipes. The air is dank, musty, and foul.

Sara groans, moving her head gingerly and sitting up. She isn't bound to her chair, though a chain rests on the floor next to her feet.

"You're awake, my princess," her captor croons, moving into the light before her. "Excellent. I wouldn't want you to miss anything."

She glares up at him, refusing to show fear. "What do you want with me?"

"What does anyone want, Princess? So many things. I've been watching you for many years." Despite herself, she shudders at his words and he smiles. "I've seen you at your best, and you are the best in your vocation. It's only appropriate that now I see you at your worst."

He reaches out, tracing a hand along one shoulder. "It would be a pity to marr such beautiful skin." The other hand struck swiftly, leaving her stunned. "But such will only enhance your beauty. I want your anger. I want your screams. Because no one can hear you. And no one will find you. It's just you and me, Sara. You and

"Police brutality." He spits, turning over. "A lovely lawsuit."

"A true shame none of us heard anything," Grissom snaps, herding Sara onto the gurney the paramedics wheel in.

"Pulse 65-" "Blood pressure 100/82-" "Oxygen saturation 35%, were you drugged Ms. Sidle?"

"He gassed me with chlorofoam. I think. Nothing else that I know of but there might be something on the knife."

"Get her to Desert Palms. No one is to visit without police escort," he says roughly, giving her hand a squeeze.

"Griss--let them know?"

"I will," he says softly, giving her hand another squeeze before the doors to the ambulance are shut.

Brass slaps cuffs on the man, ignoring his shrieks of pain, and pats him down for other weapons before signaling for the paramedics to come over ( ... )

"Understood, Captain," Vartann nods, sparing a thoroughly disgusted look at the man on the ground. "Honestly. Targeting a CSI will go down as the second biggest mistake of your miserable life."

A sick, twisted grin. "What's the first then?"

And Vartann leans down, his eyes narrow and hate-filled. "Taking an innocent life in the first place. Hope you enjoy your reservation in Hell."

Grissom comes back in. "Ecklie is sending dayshift since my people would obviously be too involved." Annoyance clearly underlies the spoken words. "Sara's injuries aren't life-threatening, but she'll be in the hospital for a few days."

"Do you really want Warrick processing Sara's blood splatter, and Greg swabbing her epithelials from that chain?" he asks point blank, not looking for an answer.

"I'm going to need to stick around, turn in my gun and make a statement. You heading to the hospital?"

"I will shortly. I need to inform certain people in Sara's life about what has happened." Knowing Jim will read between the lines: Have to stop at Milliways first.

"Then I will go to the hospital. I'll see you there."

Brass gives him a knowing nod. "It shouldn't take too long. I didn't even get to kill him," he adds with a rueful half-smile. "Give Sara my best, and tell her... tell her good work."
