So, I was on TV for a moment

Jul 20, 2012 00:27

The local news did a puff piece on the opening of Dark Knight Rises, and came to my store and talked to me.  They used a few seconds of me saying obvious stuff about Batman.  My impressions are: 1) is that really my voice?  and 2) ugh, the camera really does add 10 pounds. :(

Plus, Mike Lacrosse got the name of my store wrong.

Anyway, here it is.

nerditude, events at the store, work, comics, stuff i saw on tv, news

You probably won't believe me, because that's human nature, but really, you came off great in that Batman piece - both in looks and in what you said. And I didn't hear anything wrong with your voice. You sounded very professional, actually. That newscaster was the one who looked like an idiot, getting your store's name wrong when the footage clearly showed a picture of the sign with the name RIGHT THERE. And you said intelligent things about Batman, not always an easy thing to do when a reporter is essentially trying to manipulate their subject into saying that juicy soundbite that will fit well into the shape of their story. And they're not even that obvious, at least to someone who doesn't make a career of understanding and analyzing the appeal of comics, which is just what most of the people who watched that segment would be. :)

I for one am pleased for you. I'm also pleased that I finally have a totally valid excuse to use this icon, so thanks!

Thank you. I tried to say interesting things, talk up the store when I could, and generally push the idea of comics. I knew he had a story already plotted in his head (fans are super excited!) and pretty much all his questions skewed to that idea. I'm glad you, as a former media person, thought I did well. <3

And that really is a great icon. :)
