put the finishing touches on el painto in the weekend ... they're never really finishing touches are they? there's definitely more that could be done, but, set myself a deadline and i'm gonna stick to it. gotta let go at some point. one month as of yesterday till it has to be hung, so any more work on it would be cutting too close to crunch time ( Read more... )

Hey nice pictur-esque! Did you do a craccum cover over some school? It looks suspiciously like your style... heh...

I was about to ask about the very same thing!
Although unfortunately I didn't see the cover.. rather I saw the belated thanks in the first issue.

haha, yup ya got me, i have ryan to thank for that, if you're quick and get your hands on this week's issue you'll notice a striking similarity to this painting, which incidentally is the second piece in the exhibition next month. it's actual size! same with the summer school pic, they're both a4 :)

howdy there! thank you very much!! i'll post the whole picture soon so you can see the entire thing, pardon the wait/tease, got people with vested interest to show next week before making it public, hopefully it'll be worth it though!

i'm very proud of the sky in this piece, hardly touched it since starting in january, it was one of those brain-switch-off-stream-of-consciousness things :)

Have you tried alkyds? They're as workable as oils, but they dry much faster - about 24 hours.

heya buddy!

never tried alkyds, might have to look into that, thanks for the suggestion!

i do love oils so, however :)

drying time's only really an annoyance upon completion (or walking too close) ... in this particular case, the painting's pretty dry to the touch, i've been using a lot of turps and doing thin layers, the smaller details required a smaller brush, that bird in particular would be about 10-15mm tall (and i still feel the lines are a bit huge)

varnishing is another story though ... it's just good practice to wait till there's little doubt the medium's dried

you might be interested to know, on the bus this morning i noticed the french art shop in ponsonby is having a 20-60%-off-everything-in-store sale so i'm going to check that out this weekend, i'd quite like to get my mitts on a large-ish easel though maybe not till payday next week!!
