oh, wow, that was great, and really "interesting", you know ? To just change from the usual clichés ^^ And I also liked the fact that it was Danny who had it, because Steve is more obvious for this kind of thing, but Danny must have seen a lot of shit too. I'm really not an expert on PTSD, but it is a subject that I find very intriguing, the way of the mind... I would guess that Danny, who have his emotions so close to the surface would be somewhat hit harder than Steve by it ? The lack of mind conditioning, too I guess, even if I know that no matter how well you could be trained, you can't escape your own brain... I'm sorry that you have some of those, feeling powerless must be awful.

Also, h/c FTW ! I'm pretty sure that a hug from Steve is made of unicorn and rainbow <3
So yeah, thanks for this heartfelt and truthful story ^^

Thank you for your thoughtful comment! It always bothered me that no one seemed to think Danny had ever been traumatized, which is ridiculous for a detective. He must have seen some pretty horrible things in past cases. And he does wear his emotions on his sleeve, so it's easy to see him keeping some of those horrors with him.

Luckily, I've been doing okay lately, I have a huge dreamcatcher that helps a lot.

That has to be the best hug comment I've seen yet! It is indeed made of unicorns and rainbows. :D

Very good fic. I'd like to see a sequel where Steve gives Danny a dream catcher or the Hawaiian equivelent (if there is one).

I thought this was a superb character study and I especially liked that it was all from Danny's POV. I have no doubt that Danny's seen some horrible murder scenes as a cop, so it makes sense that he would be haunted by all of those images.

So good for Steve for being there when his friend needs him.

Wonderful work on this.

my night terrors are different again, in that I know 'all' I have to do to wake and save myself is move or make a sound, and I simply cannot, so lay there, terrified and trapped and frozen to the bed unable to move.

I think you've captured the horror of these nicely, and more to the point the aftermath, which is almost worse than the terror itself.

And what a *lovely* way to be soothed through that aftermath! I can understand why Danny would just give in to being held!

You've described it perfectly, I have a similar sense of 'all' I have to do is actually look and I'll know everything is fine, but I simply can't make myself do it.

I always hate the aftermath, because I'm so close to my sister, but I can't bring myself to either check on her or wake her up.

I wish I had hugs like this to look forward to! :D
