Guys, my Kindle is legit 90% fanfic now. And that fanfic is like 90% smut. And that smut is almost 100% homosexual. So, in short, I hope that in the event that my Kindle is stolen that the thief is a gay lady, or a questioning lady, or a far-right social conservative. The first two are free to return my Kindle to me in person ( Read more... )

I make it a habit to check your LJ every now and then (because I do enjoy reading your posts, even if half the time I've no idea what you're talking about XD). Usually I don't comment because I don't have anything at all to say, but I do for this entry!

So can I just say that last night's hangout was hilarious XDD

I swear you and AG are trying to corrupt me, though.

What a cliffhanger of an ending. Mid-season finale level tension.

I myself am more of a supporter of "needs more rationalism," but rationalism isn't a straw vulcan, anyways. Emotions do have to be taken into account.

But yeah, "pathos as a valid argumentative strategy" makes me cringe. No. This is everything that is wrong with not-the-official-"sport"-debate. Fuck you, political "debates." More like farces.

Which isn't to say that I disavow the over-the-top fandom squee. Reaction posts and squee-ful recaps are delightful, and it's fun to use the jargon.

But it's all about self-awareness. Fandom passion is all good and well, but it also must be watched to avoid fandumb. Rationality is that watchdog, and it doesn't dismiss passion in and of itself.

Although, I strongly disagree with the "feelings have become feminized" school of thought, and then taking pride in how letting feels out is some how empowering feminism. That's kind of doing the work for them, deciding something has been gendered and valued accordingly when it hasn't necessarily been.
