ZOMG, Gabriela Kanno?!

Oh. My. God.

"On July 7, 2009, Yoko Kanno herself performed as Gabriela Robin on her stage and the rumor proved to be true." - wiki's Yoko Kanno page"As many fans would have known by now, Kanno has indirectly admitted that she is Gabriela Robin during the July 7, 2009 Superdimensional Tanabata Sonic concert, where she personally sang "Moon" in ( Read more... )

Wow, I heard about Kanno Yoko as a composer to some famous game and anime songs, and I love "Moon" but don't know it's her who sing it. <3

Most (or all) of the lyrics are Esperanto, right? Or is it just, hmm, gibberish? There's something about this "langauge" (along with the melody) that always made those songs so epic and surreal. And speaking of gibberish, it also remind me of "Barcarolle" from Aria (www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SDCv8Mt6wY) the one I mention last month (that scene is beautiful <3) Too bad Kawai Eri passed away so soon, RIP.

However, when it comes to anime songs, I always prefer the more energetic and upbeat ones. (Though I like some slow tempo songs of classic anime such as Galaxy Express 999 too.) This is so random but just imagine Hyo and the girls cosplay as Haruhi and co. dancing to "Hare Hare Yukai" is fun enough. XD

Yoko Kanno is probably my favorite anime composer. Even anime that I didn't finish watching--Sousei no Aquarion--had such epically beautiful music across the OSTs (the strings, the orchestra, the Warsaw Chorus <3, it sounds like a war opera). The popularity of Cowboy Bebop (and her collaborative work on Escaflowne) means that practically every anime fan has heard Kanno, combining every genre from jazz to rock to just WTF (all of Ed's songs). And Ghost in the Shell manages to jump from ethereally resonant to battlefield frantic. Arjuna, too, manages to be evocative of earthly tones and sounds. And who doesn't know Maaya Sakamoto in the anime world? Those two have done some amazing collaborations together (the opening of Record of Lodoss War TV pops into my head first); I think Kanno is considered one of her mentors. And it doesn't hurt that Kanno collaborates with great foreign singers: Italian singer Ilaria Graziano ("I Do", "dew" are two of my faves of their collabs) and English-speaking singers Steve Conte, Scott Matthew ("Beauty Is... )

It's sort of unfair. I mean, great composer and a great voice? But it's all directed in the pursuit of awesome, so one can't complain!

Aish, I hate being sick. But! 1) I remember looking up stuff about "who is Yoko Kanno?" and in the end just being content with the fact that I simply love all her work but whoa, Gabriela Robin! It makes sense!!

2) My sister shared just shared this clip with me, the League of Extraordinary Dancers (LXD) performing "Yellow" on So You Think You Can Dance. (I know you follow ABDC but I don't think I've ever asked you if you follow SYTYCD; it may be another one of those things that we're opposites about XD) I thought you might enjoy it because I certainly did~!

Off to take meds and hopefully sleep -_-;

I'm sorry to hear that you're sick but glad to see that you're alive and kicking. =) I hope you get better. Try to get some rest.

We are opposite about viewing ABDC and SYTYCD, but to be fair I did start off by being a viewer of SYTYCD but converted to ABDC when it began (ABDC took Shane Sparks with it). I often catch the end of SYTYCD these days because it airs before "Glee," lol.

Regardless, awesome link is awesome. =D I've always wondered about setting more hip-hop-oriented dance to more classically bent music and, look!, there is is. =D Thank you for taking the time to share it, Jess!

(Will you be off to see your family soon?)

Tryin' to kick that cold, that's what xP

I don't know why I was never able to catch ABDC ... the first I'd ever heard of it was from you, actually. Very strange. I'm amused that you catch the end of it now because of Glee~

Dude. I just looked up LXD on Youtube and the teaser video looks f-ing EPIC. It's like ... a musical, but dancing instead of singing. Seriously. Whoa. Holy crap. I'ma ... I'ma be over here for a moment...

(Soon being Christmas Eve -_-; But I'm not complaining too much - gosh knows there may be times when I won't be able to go back at all so take what I can get while I can get it!)
