Hrm. Nothing really sticking yet. I have concluded that BoP #75 is one of my favorites of the series. Just those first few pages... *swoon*

I read the Rose & Thorn mini by Simone today. It had psychoses. I was happy. And Thorn was amusing, even if I felt bad for Rose whenever she found herself in a situation.

Fandom: Birds of Prey
Characters: Dinah Lance, Barbara Gordon, and a little Helena Bertinelli and a new "member"
Words: 550
Notes: Spoilers for One Year Later arc, especially #97 and #98. Because the Birds are really a strange, possibly dysfunctional family. Exactly who plays what role... I don't know. =D I think Babs is like the exasperated mom, though. ;)

“Come on, Babs.”

“No.”

“Pretty please?”

“No.”

“Pretty pretty please?”

“No.”

“With a cherry on top?”

“No.”

“… Just this once. C’mon, is it really so hard for you to relax and have fun once in a while?”

“No, and no. I won’t do this, Dinah.”

“… Fine. I can understand if you don’t want to do it for me, but I’m not asking for me. I’m asking for Sin.”

“…”

“Please?”

There was a soft sigh.

*
“Hey,” Helena Bertinelli called out as she stepped into their headquarters in Dalten Tower, “anyone-what the hell?”

Dinah Lance whipped around at the sound of her voice and smiled-no, grinned cheerfully. “Hey, Helena.” And from over her shoulder, Barbara Gordon stared, almost horrified, at her other agent, her arms around Dinah’s neck tightening slightly.

Helena tried to stay something, but one look from Barbara silenced her-even as laughter threatened to burst from her lips. She had to bite the inside of her cheek.

Sin suddenly appeared at Helena’s side and tugged on her hand enthusiastically. She pointed at Dinah and Barbara and gleefully proclaimed, “Piggyback ride!”

Helena tried very hard not to smile. “Yes, Sin, that’s right, a piggyback ride.”

As if in response, Dinah adjusted her grip on Barbara’s legs with a little jerk, pitching her up into the air slightly and eliciting a small gasp from the redhead. Barbara’s arms wrapped tighter around Dinah, making it slightly more difficult to breathe-but certainly not enough to stop the delighted laughter that escaped from Dinah’s lips.

*
Dinah carefully lowered Barbara back into her chair, squatting down so that Barbara could scoot backwards easily. She tried not to notice how quickly Barbara seemed to get go of her or how Barbara sighed in relief once she was settled back in.

This really wasn’t the way she had imagined picking Barbara up.

This wasn’t the way she wanted to hold her.

But she knew how hard it was for Barbara. Oh, did she ever know.

She pivoted on a heel and, still crouching, gazed up at her friend.

“Thanks, Babs,” she said, her voice almost dipping into a whisper.

An unreadable look passed through Barbara’s eyes and then Sin was suddenly giggling and clambering up Dinah’s back, throwing her arms around the blonde’s neck. Barbara’s eyes softened.

“I’ll remember this,” Barbara said and then turned her chair away.

But Dinah caught the way her eyes flashed and the slight smile on her lips. Smiling herself, she looked over her shoulder until she could see Sin’s laughing face.

“Ready for a piggyback ride, sweetie?”

Sin smiled. “Yes. I understand now. It’s for to make fun, to make happy. Like the stones and the jumping.”

“That’s right, sweetie. Just like hopscotch.”

Yes, exactly like that, she thought, and hoped Sin was right.

Helena’s eye caught hers. She crossed her arms under her breasts, lifting one eyebrow. “I wish I had had a camera.”

*
Alone and back behind the keyboard, Barbara slumped in her chair.

For one moment, Dinah’s shoulders and back strong underneath her, it had felt like flying. Wild and out of control and unsettling but, maybe precisely because of that, a little bit exhilarating.

She blinked back sudden tears, not knowing if she wanted to laugh or cry.

Dinah moaned in ecstasy, her eyelashes fluttering as pleasure overwhelmed her senses.

“Oh God,” she breathed, “this has to be the best pad thai ever.” She straightened back up in her seat and shoved a forkful of noodles and tofu at her partner. “You have to try this.”

Barbara, smiling slightly in amusement, leaned forward in her chair and took the bite in her mouth, lips sliding off the fork in a way that almost made Dinah purse her own lips. Barbara’s smile widened as she chewed. “Mmm… that is good.”

Dinah grinned back, as if the excellent food had been her own achievement. “Didn’t I tell you? Oh, you’ve got a little bit…” She gestured at the corner of her own lips.

Barbara’s tongue darted out between her lips. “There?”

“No, it’s still-”

The redhead wiped her face with the back of her hand. “Now?”

“No,” Dinah said, leaning forward to point, “it’s right-” and Barbara brushed at her face again just as Dinah darted close and licked the corner of her mouth “-there.”

Barbara froze.

“Got it,” Dinah said, settling serenely back into her seat with her takeout box of pad thai.

Barbara blinked and then said, lamely, “Thanks.”

“No problem.” Dinah winked. “Next time, we can save it for later if you want.”
