GREY'S EXCHANGE SIGN-UPS ARE CLOSED FOR 2009!
Welcome to
greys_exchange, a hiatus fic exchange challenge for Grey's Anatomy! Your current exchange mods are
shopfront and
milk-and-glass. This exchange is about keeping busy between seasons of our favourite medical drama.
greys_exchange is multi-pairing and currently allows het, slash, gen and Real Person Fiction (RPF). Private Practice-centric fic will not be included for this round. Fic including Addison or referencing Private Practice canon will be allowed, but please note that the pairing must include two Grey's characters (Addison/Mark is allowed, Addison/Pete is not) or be Grey's-centric in the case of RPF (ie. Ellen Pompeo/Kate Walsh is allowed, but Kate Walsh/Tim Daly is not).
DEADLINES
- Sign ups start now and will close on Friday, 19th of June at midnight American EST time.
- Exchange assignments will go out on Sunday, 21st of June.
- You will then have seven weeks to write your exchange fic, which will be due on Sunday, 9th of August.
- We are crossposting to the Dreamwidth mirror community for this round, therefore fics will be submitted via email on or before the 9th of August. The mods will then crosspost the stories to both communities on Sunday, 16th of August.
GENERAL RULES
- Flaming, bashing or trolling of ANY kind will not be tolerated. Ship preferences are to be respected. This is a One Strike And You're Out rule. You have been warned.
- Stories archived at greys_exchange remain the property of the writer and are not to be posted, archived or redistributed elsewhere, except where the writer permits. All crossposting will be done from a moderator account, and the appropriate author will be identified in the headers of all fic posts.
- This community is only for the posting of exchange stories. No promotion, no icons, etc. If crossposting is successful during this round, posting access will be turned off for non-moderator participants in the future.
WRITING AND SUBMITTING YOUR ENTRY
- Participants must be 15 years of age or older to take part in an exchange.
- Participants must be 17 years of age or older to write or receive an NC-17 rated story.
- Participants are strongly encouraged to have their stories beta-read before submitting as good spelling, grammar and punctuation is a requirement. Stories don't have to be perfect. They do have to be readable.
- All stories must be at least 1000 words in length and COMPLETE.
- Stories must be the original creation of the participating writer. Borrowed words and images must be credited and kept to a minimum. Songfics and crossovers (excepting minor crossover with Private Practice in Addison pairings, if so desired) are not allowed.
- All exchange participants MUST nominate THREE pairings/character combinations they'd like to see written, and AT LEAST TWO must be Grey's pairings (eg. Meredith/Izzie, Addison/Derek, etc.) The third may be EITHER a Grey's pairing OR an RPF pairing OR 1-3 Grey's characters for gen-fic.
- In the case of a gen-fic, participants may nominate either specific characters or ensemble. Participants are asked to choose one to three characters; writers do need to include ALL characters requested. If a participant asks for ensemble, the writer may use ANY Grey's characters (including Addison) he/she chooses (but in the spirit of the word, must include a selection of 4+ Grey's characters).
- Writers are only required to write ONE of the pairings/character combinations requested of them, and they are not required to go beyond the pairing/characters you request. Please don't include prompts or restrictions (like "I only like happy George/Izzie") as they won't be passed on to your assigned writer, and they are also not obligated to write that specifically.
- If we need to contact you via email about your exchange assignment please remember to respond to us, we're emailing for a reason!
- If you sign up for the exchange we do expect you to treat this as a formal commitment, and to make a serious effort to fulfill your commitments.
- When the exchange is finished and you've received your fic don't forget to politely and graciously thank the writer who has worked hard on your gift fic! PLEASE NOTE: this is not an optional rule. Due to issues we had with upset and un-thanked writers in previous exchanges, a lack of feedback from you to the person writing your gift can be grounds for a warning or banning from future exchanges here.
DREAMWIDTH POLICY
We are operating a mirror community for this round at
greys_exchange. In previous years, a moderator has made a post closer to the submission deadline detailing the header and formating requirements for posting. For this round, the post will also include a reminder that submission is to the exchange email address, and that moderators will be posting stories from the moderator account. This is to allow for crossposting at both communities regardless of whether participants hold accounts or have claimed their OpenIDs at both sites.
You are not required to hold accounts at both websites to participate in this exchange. You are welcome to sign-up and watch at just one of the communities if you choose, and we will not be redirected comments from the Livejournal crossposts to the Dreamwidth counterparts. If you have any questions about this addition to
greys_exchange policy, please don't hesitate to ask.
DROP OUT POLICIES
While we do expect you to treat your commitment here seriously, we understand that sometimes things happen. If anything changes and you won't be able to complete your assignment, LET US KNOW A.S.A.P. We can't stress this enough. There will be someone working hard on your gift fic, so we need as much time as you can possibly give us to find a pinch-hitter to write for your recipient so that they get a fic in exchange for their own hard work.
Please also be aware that you likely won't recieve a fic if you drop out of the exchange, and if you drop out without any notice you will not be allowed to participate in future exchanges. Things like having writer's block or not planning appropriately around other commitments won't roll here. Please remember that people who drop out are stressful and upsetting for everyone involved and the whole situation puts a number of people under very tight deadlines.
SIGNING UP
- Before signing up, read A Guide to Participating in Fic Exchanges, by Someone Who Knows. This post describes the exchange process and what your moderators expect of you when you agree to participate.
- First you need to watch the community so you'll see any moderator announcements.
- Copy and paste from the textbox below into a comment. Please fill out ALL of the form, we can't officially include you in the exchange until you've provided all the information we've asked for.
- When listing pairings or character combinations that you are willing to write, please list as many as possible. It will make it easier to assign you to another exchange participant.
- Please note that while we will try our very best to assign you a participant who requests one of your first choice pairings, sometimes that isn't possible.
If signing up to write Gen, please use the following listing format:
- If you are willing to write any combination of 3+ characters, please simply list them all (be aware that you may get any possible combination from the characters you request, and may also receive a request with only one or two characters listed). Eg. Willing to write: Meredith, Cristina, Alex, Izzie may result in a request for an Izzie centric fic; Meredith and Cristina fic; Meredith, Cristina, and Alex fic; etc.
- If you are willing to write any of Meredith, Cristina, Alex, and Izzie EXCEPT for Cristina and Alex, please list your character combinations in the following way: 1) Meredith, Cristina, Izzie, 2) Meredith, Alex, Izzie. In addition to the full three characters, you may also receive a request for Meredith centric fic; Cristina and Izzie; Meredith and Alex; etc., but you won't receive Cristina and Alex.
- To keep matching character combinations within the realm of possibility for the mods, please limit any Gen details to up to four lists.
- If commiting to writing ensemble gen-fic, keep in mind that this requires writing that is focused on the characterisation and/or plationic relationships between four or more Grey's characters of your choosing.
