You gotta be kidding me

Have you tried going to your local unemployment office? Many of them nowadays have counselors and also offer free training and classes to update your job skills. The local housing authority should be able to get you into emergency housing. Try the unemployment office first, though - if the housing authority knows you're trying to find a better job, they're more likely to help you ( ... )

Also, if it's a retail job, just hold out for another month or so. When the Christmas season hits, they'll up your hours again.

Are you bugging the hell out of everyone in social services in your area? I work at a transitional shelter here in DC. The women who live in the house I work at have made it very clear to me that the only way to get ANY help from the system is to harass everyone who could possibly help you as often as humanly possible. One of our residents was told by the case worker at one program that she shouldn't be involved in any other programs, shouldn't have any other case workers, which is just expressly bullshit. The program the person who told her this worked at had a very specific focus, which did not cover things like getting food stamps or on disability or finding housing.
So, yeah. If there is anyone at any program you could be asking for help, ask. And ask again, and again, and again, until they give you what you need just to make you stop bugging them. Don't trust your life and wellbeing to anyone else, don't trust anyone else to look out for your best interests out of the goodness of their heart.
