So today I turned 37. I hope to all the Gods and Goddesses and Angels and anything else that cares about me that this will mark the end of the Year of Hell, just as last birthday was the start, when my shithead brother decided to get himself too drunk to drive over and see me on my birthday

Quick question - have you gone over to welfare or the housing authority yet? The rules have changed a bit, but they might be able to get you some assistance. I know here in PA you have to work at least 20 hours a month to qualify for food stamps, and you also need to be employed to qualify for Section 8 housing. But check with them anyway, and get your name in the system. They have job training classes and other resources that could help you land a job if the other leads you have don't pan out. You can apply for welfare online, along with Medicaid. If you don't qualify for Medicaid, make sure they get you on the waiting list for state-funded health insurance (it's called Adult Basic here in PA). You have to pay for it, but it's not nearly as expensive as private insurance or COBRA. I pay $36 a month for it, but had to wait nearly two years on the waiting list to get it. The Housing Authority, you're better off going to the office and ask to speak to someone in person. They may be able to get you into emergency housing, or at the very
