Okay guys, it's been far too long since I've made a geekgasm post, in which I lay out a digital smorgasborg of shinies, we all drool over their gigahertz, and then cry into our lonely, empty wallets. It's such fun, join me!
I broke down (see also: finally got off my keister) and ordered a Dell Mini 12. Even though I really wanted to quit Dell. (Della! Gah!) It's basically the same shape as the laptop I'm using this moment -- which I bought in 2002 -- only one inch wider and many times more powerful. More powerful than my laptop and Y2K-era desktop combined. And, hey, not too expensive, really. To think I used to chase the tech curve ....
I feel you on giving money to The Man (Della... ugh), it feels so dirty... but at the same time, you get something you want! Such a quandary...
And yay for new laptops! It's a little mind boggling to me the leaps and bounds it's going at. I was reading an article the other day that was talking about tech from 2007, and scoffing at the speeds and perks -- and it made me take a second and go, "...huh."
Chasing the tech curve is exhausting. I keep trying to shake myself of the habit, but they keep coming out with things that are so cool. I'm going to break before the year is over and get something, of that I'm sure. I should just admit it to myself and start my "shiny tech savings fund" right now.
Wow, I feel... ungeeky? I don't own an iPhone or a Kindle or a laptop or anything shiny. I have an iPod I won about 4-5 years ago. And a cell phone that I TALK on (I don't even text).
One day, someone's going to make a device that combines all of the functions and forms of today's cool gadgets, and we'll only need to carry around one thing rather than a cell phone, PDA, MID, netbook, Kindle, tablet PC, and desktop replacement.
That's what I'm holding out for. Yep. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. :D
Though I am terribly tempted by e-readers and I have a work laptop that I take home (with permission!).
Haha... don't feel ungeeky--feel normal. Most people aren't quite as, um, I guess obsessed is the nice word with tech as I might be. I think it's probably a good thing (especially on your wallet.)

They're getting cheaper! The Cool-er Reader is I think about $250. I think maybe in the next year or so we're going to see a model that approaches the $100 mark. Although a laptop/e-reader isn't too bad an idea.

(this is cruel & unusual punishment. I want, like, all of them. but the e-readers especially, want so bad. just need money....!)

Beware of the e-readers, though. Once you get one, it owns your SOUL. And you just don't care.

*uncorks another bottle* Tell the greyias all about it.

My tale of Star Trek woe is long and filled with self-pity and therefore unfit for the public eye.
On the positive side, I figured out how to do text and cartoon in Photoshop. I've also decided I need Adobe Illustrator. Do I?
