For future reference, Dear SFWA, Spooky and I are not offended at being called "ladies."

Just saying.

Some silly ass drowned themselves in my local swimming hole last year, and now there is a zealous patrol charged with preventing a recurrence. I wish it were psychologically possible for me to exercise with people watching, but it does not seem to be, otherwise, I would brave a pool.

Drowned himself on purpose? I tried that once. I very dumb way to attempt suicide.

I believe it was an accident, but I am not certain. The pond looks very narrow at one point, but it is more than a weak swimmer can handle to swim across. I probably should not cast aspersions, having almost drowned once myself and lost a very brilliant friend to the water. But from that perspective, it is hard not to realize that water will *always* try to kill you when you give it the least little chance.

I've been a very strings swimmer since a very young age. I've honestly never had a close call.

Absolutely true.

Surfacing ~20 yards offshore.

That's great. You make a fine, strange sea-creature.

Don't know how many people try to die and fail. Lots, I imagine.

Well, I imagine I'd have had much more success had I not attempted in in a bathtub.

On Sunday, when my co-worker and I were discussing the best ways to commit suicide, she mentioned something about freezing to death.

Well, it's a bit more unpleasant than that. Back when I was doing field work, I ended up hypothermic on three separate occasions; it was actually rather painful.

They only manifest in saltwater. Now, if I only had gills.
