Yesterday, I wrote the first four pages of Alabaster: Boxcar Tales Chapter 10 (of 13), which comes to nine manuscript pages, or 2,348 words. Today, I'll finish Chapter 10. And tomorrow, goddamn it, is A DAY OFF. I'm taking at least one. I finished a novel day before yesterday, and now I'm writing this, and the deadlines can bite me. Oh, also...the ( Read more... )

Jose Cuervo Gold, though I rarely allow myself alcohol these days. But, fuck I do love good tequila. Even decent tequila. Fuck, I love shitty tequila.

I had the silver last night myself but, yeah, lovely stuff.

I am told by the Weather Channel that we'll reach 66˚F today. In May. 66˚F.

It's 61 here in San Diego to-day. I think maybe Ororo Munroe is drunk.

Yes. I was going to make a margarita but then I thought, why do that to myself?

A huge amount of Mexican food. I made my signature guacamole, though I did use lime instead of the usual lemon.

We couldn't do Mexican last night, so we did it tonight. My daughter loves breakfast burritos (mexican rice and scrambled egg with black bean & chorizo in a tortilla) so that was the main course. Luckily I still had a few frozen tomatillo cubes from last summer's garden to add to the bean dish.

But, fuck I do love good tequila. I usually add some tequila to the black beans while they're cooking.

Do you do a messy guacamole or is it a relatively plain version? It's hard to get good avocados up here, unfortunately....

Yes. Vodka works too. I use vodka as the base for my home-made limoncello; it's really smooth and isn't headache-inducing. Although I also occasionally make a batch with grain instead.

Was waiting till you finished Red Delicious to mention this, but now that you've got that out of the way, you really might want to to give the Netflix series (13 eps first season, all done) Hemlock Grove a try. Seems like it might suit you.

Spooky's been watching it. While she says it's majorly cheesy (and the acting I've heard sounds atrocious), she's also like some of it.

I actually think most of the acting is really good, but there are certain spots where the characters suddenly say things and react in ways that make absolutely no sense, in the context of their realtionship to each other, the way they normally speak and react, or the overall context. The actors usually seem a little off in these spots, but then, what the heck are they going to do? These bits are usually louder than the rest and may be what you caught while not watching.

Fortunately, those sequences are glaring exceptions to the overall quality. If I had been pitching the show to studios trying to get a deal, I'd have said it resemebles Twin Peaks meets Dark Shadows. The early eps in particular are heavily influenced by the former.

Despite some occasionally monumental flaws and plot twists that I would consider unforgivable in a show I liked less, I absolutely love this one, and would recommend it highly based on what I know of your tastes.
