I'd have to agree with all of the positives for GW2 and I'm interested in reading what you have to say about the negatives. I can't say that I'm unbiased (I enjoyed the heck out of GW1 and am enjoying GW2 as well) but I'm also rather uninformed - I've never played another MMO and likely never will. I really, really like NCSOFT's no-subscription model and the game is certainly no more than I'd invest in a TT RPG (far less actually).

The Secret World sounds more your speed, complete with Lovecraft allusions, supernatural stuff, sad and haunting stories, horror undertones, etc. I can't play (no GPU) but my friend who does has fallen in love with it.
