How did it get so late? Now, there's a good goddamn question. I only meant, how did it get to be 12:47 p.m., when I could have sworn it was only noon ( Read more... )

And maybe it can be fixed/covered/designed around and made wonderful.

I think the lines are too fine to be gone over (the only possible fix), and there's no way to design around it, because this color would still remain.

Bottom line: if you're pissing folks off because of something you are writing about, it's probably because you are doing your job very well, indeed, or they are skittish idiots jumping to their own conclusions and bleating out loud. Give those folks the appropriate middle-finger salute and keep going.

If only everyone would do this, I wouldn't have to write these entries.

The cyber bullies (and academic bullies and litcrit bullies) who simultaneously scream for inclusion and exclusion

Is this something like Schrodinger's Cat that's somehow dead and alive at the same time??

I've been taking your advice and simply Screwing the Art Police and Writing Things (albeit fanfiction, but, hey, it's Writing, plus, I'm filling prompts on a prompt comm and making people happy when they get their prompts replied to); I'm also feeling worlds better than I have for the past six months off and on. By their estimation, I shouldn't be writing about an albino Japanese male energy vampire because I'm a beige-skinned Irish-English-French-German-God only knows what female human. But yah know? I like writing this guy because he has a twisty personality and while his head isn't a pretty place to be in, I like visiting it. Also, I'm writing about a guy who has one word to describe the Art Police: food.

Well...I have scientific quibbles with the "problem" of Schrödinger's Cat. But it does present an insoluble paradox to those who try to appease the Thought Police.

This shit thrives in fanfic communities. So, you're doing right.

Fight on.

It does. It really does. I haven't been on the receiving end of it much (knock on wood, throw salt over my shoulder), aside from the person who yelled at me for using "insane" as a metaphor, but on one comm, I've seen some napalm-like fanwank that ended up triggering the sporadic writer's block that had me crippled for too bloody long.

Fuck that. I'm crazy, certified, papers and everything, have spent time in the mental wards of hospitals, and I have no problem with insane.

I keep hearing about the Thought Police causing writer's block. It will never have that effect on me. I'm a little surprised (and horrified) it has that effect on anyone.

I received a shipping notice from SubPress earlier today. Definitely not angrifying.

"Kill your fear, and fuck the Art Police, the Thought Police."

Yes. I am sick of seeing works denounced, hearing that if people like $thing that "it tells you something about them" and having artists told contradictory things about what they can and can't do.

This situation is not about being aware; it is about bullying. Bullying is bullying no matter where it comes from.

Also, I want your quote at the top on a sampler.

Well, it's Elton John's, not mine. But I doubt he'd mind.
