"I'm worse at what I do best, and for this gift I feel blessed."

I just opened the jewel case that should contain my copy of Nirvana's In Utero, only to discover that it's empty. I don't think I've listened to the album since I left Athens in 1997, so I'm guessing some wasted douchebag stole it at some party or another. That used to happen a lot. Wasted douchebags in your house stealing your shit. So, I'm ( Read more... )

Apologies if someone re: your Prometheus posts has already mentioned it, but I really liked what the AV Club reviewer said, "one of the story’s central ideas is that it’s unwise for mere humans to seek out gods, because they might be unimaginable or incomprehensible." I thought to myself, "That's about right." I am guessing that one of the biggest complaints out there is that the movie doesn't make sense or doesn't resolve anything properly, but I think that's one of the things that makes it work. Much like what happens to Weyland, Shaw, and wossface, what makes you think you deserve answers from the gods? Because you ask? Because you need to know? Hey, great, but they don't owe you anything. They created you, forgot about you, and somewhere along the line, decided to erase you. Why is irrelevant. Gods do what they want because they can and any attempt for us to feel as though we are owed explanations to our existence is problematic at best.

Which is, of course the reference of the title: The fall of the titan Prometheus. You should read the other blogger, mentioned above for detailed elaboration.

Yes, and it is open ended, though...an attentive person will see many answers.

what makes you think you deserve answers from the gods? Because you ask? Because you need to know?

The arrogance of Prometheus. And of mankind. But...also why think the gods are gods?

I'm going to see it tonight, I've tried so very hard to avoid all posts and spoilers and opinions, so I can see what I think. We'll see how it goes.

I did, a lot. There were nits to pick, but nothing to jolt me out of enjoying the story. Well besides trying to do the math as to how distant the ship had gone...that lost me for a little while, then I just gave up and went "It's gone a long way..." and rejoined the lovely cinematography. I'm glad I avoided reading reviews and spoilers, my only wish is I hadn't repeatedly seen links to 'At the Mountains of Madness', as I wondered if I'd have made the link myself. So far, I think it's the best movie I've seen this year...and I'm probably going to see it again to see what I missed. Also, I just read your posts on the movie and enjoyed them. Tomorrow I get to introduce a friend to the original 'Alien'. It's going to be a good weekend.

No, I do not know why they used so many o's

I guess kaboom.com, kabooom.com and kaboooom.com were already taken... it's so hard to find good domain names these days. (Hmm, I wonder if that's still available? Excuse me while I quickly check... It is! Itssohardtofindgooddomainnamesthesedays.com will be MINE! HeHeHe)

On a more relevant note, I also am hoping to make it to a showing of Prometheus this weekend. I look forward to reading your reviews, and the ones to which you linked.

You intimidated by cavalorn? Wow. What a compliment to him. Although, I'm loving what he's writing about it, too. I must, must see it again this weekend, so I can finish my response to the film.

Bottom line? The film got people talking and thinking. That's what it's all about.

... I'm speechless. Only yesterday - and my wife can verify this - I was raving around the house yelling 'CAITLIN R KIERNAN LIKES IT! CAITLIN EFFING KIERNAN! OHMIGOD!'

'CAITLIN R KIERNAN LIKES IT! CAITLIN EFFING KIERNAN! OHMIGOD!'

On the one hand, you flatter me, but, dude, c'mon.

In college, when I was obsessed with Frzaer, I might could have written what you're writing. But not now.
