Over the last two or three weeks the fear and anger and depression have been far more prominent, and have been so for a more extended period of time, than they have since the Spring of 2010. In a dystopian science fiction setting I run, the language of contracts is never used directly by humans; it’s designed to make unambiguous statements, but no one would attempt to manipulate it without computer assistance. (If you go into the bad part of town, you get a little countdown until your insurance rates go up for your risky behavior.) There’s a certain challenge to making a setting that is believably functional, but nasty enough that the player characters will feel inspired to topple it...
