And now We are nine.

Jul 03, 2011 13:27

Today is mine and Spooky's ninth anniversary as Us. We actually met in New Orleans in 1999, but there was much caution and testing of the waters and so forth before finalizing the arrangement. Time has proven that a wise move. It's going to be a fairly unremarkable day, though. A little work. I need my hair trimmed (Spooky does that these days), ( Read more... )

A raise of the glass to you and Spooky.

-fantasy *rapes* reality-

See, I'd not even considered the non-consensual relationship between writer and 'real' world. That's given me much to think about; thank you.

I was (I'm hoping I'm not now, or I'm getting over it) probably one of those people with hang-ups. I thought porn clashed with my idea of feminism. You can be an idealist and a puritan at the same time. I'd have earnest arguments with women friends on how porn was anti-women etc etc. I've just realised it's just a relic from my brush with Xtianity, fossilised guilt. I'm getting over it, I hope.

Uh, I *meant* to say I'll try and find The Sadeian Woman, and that I only discovered The Left Hand Of Darkness quite recently, marvellous novel.

Feminists who get hung up over porn drive me nuts. Usually, it's the Radfems. And yeah, a lot of this is holdover Puritanism, or various other psychosexual and social hangups.

The idea about fantasy "raping" reality on just occurred to me this afternoon, but it rather fascinates me.

With all due respect: fuck justification. If anything, your introduction should say "I'm going to utterly and completely violate your mind. You're welcome." The readers who love your work and who want to read, who are willing and able to set aside themselves to enter into whatever awaits them, will not need justification and will thank you for it. The best fiction, IMO, never apologizes for itself. It merely raises the blade, and then brings it down. The best readers welcome it.

Also: happy anniversary!

Well...yeah. That does rather get the point across, doesn't it? And it's not so different from my opening statements for Frog Toes and Tentacles and Tales for the Woeful Platypus.

This, I hope, counts as a nice anniversary gift: Neko Case and Nick Cave covering the Zombies's "She's Not There." (It was recorded for tonight's True Blood.)

That is mighty awesome.

Love the cover (even if I hate the show).

You can pretend Neko and Nick recorded it just for you. People have written music for you before, after all!
