This morning might almost be mistaken for June. Sunny. Warm, if you ignore the breeze. 74F.

Speaking as someone who has (and continues) to cope with addiction, I remain forever...how shall I say this nicely? I remain forever at odds with NA and AA. I've seen so many sane, decent, rational, likeable drunks and addicts turned into unbearable, self- ( Read more... )

I've always found it annoying that there are no addiction support groups out there without a religious slant (or no well known ones). It just never occurred to me as a place that people would stick god into.

I will have to watch Tree of Life. It seems like my kinda movie.

And the program really doesn't adapt well for atheists or people who prefer to not "surrender to their Higher Power".

In my experience, it refuses to adapt.

This one's just for shits and giggles.

Maybe that should be its dedication.

Oh, and I think I've decided that Confessions of a Five-Chambered Heart will be dedicated to Henry Darger.

Nice.

Humpback whales. Hurricanes. Volcanoes. Plate tectonics. The sun.

I like this as a litany.

Hmmmm. I'll consider. It already has one. But that is good.

Those are fucking handsome dice. I'm not a gamer or mathematician, but I'd happily own one.

If Tree of Life gets a screening over here, count me in. I'd like to see how it links the setting to deep time. Couldn't follow the link, sadly.

I'm still waiting for the local library's copy of Water for Elephants. The Darger DVD turned out to be sixty quid, which flabberghasted me...

As to 'higher powers', I think I'd rather stay a reasonably happy nicotine addict and barfly than become a humourless zealot, thanks. (Though my boyfriend neither smokes, drinks, or touches coffee. I don't know we've lasted.) Please rant. You've written about many noble addicts; if they were tragic, it wasn't just down to The Habit

That they are.

The release is very limited, sadly.

Odd. It ought to work. You might need to update Flash or Quicktime.

We saw via Netflix, but don't know it that helps you at.

Well, that's my take. But. I'm oddly good at managing my addictions. I have freakish self control. Another subject for another time, but I think addictions are manageable.

if you were John BigBeast, you would do much better than John Worfin.

One of my favorite bumper stickers reads "Another 12 step program and I still cant dance"
