"Can you hear them? The helicopters? I'm in New York..."

Comment, kittens!

It's not just the innate creepiness of the "praying hands" and swirly lights aspect of the present LJ banner, it's the nigh unto vomitous pale orange/melon-colored scheme. And I have to see it while I compose a journal entry. Someone ought to have to hurt ( Read more... )

*waves* I just read Silk for the first time about a week ago, and since I loved it, along with the short stories of yours that I've encountered in various anthologies, I thought I would drop in to tell you so and say hi :)
I look forward to reading your blog, and more of your work!
Also, the Two Worlds And In Between cover ROCKS. So does the title.

Then, I force myself to take time off which is, essentially, necessary, and - KERBLAM - no sleep.

Fairy tale insomnia. (Meaning, a fairy tale about insomnia.) If that hasn't happened yet, it has to. And sympathies.

And here's to that touch of whimsy to the cover, what painted-Caitlin's carrying. I assume computer manipulation made that effect a lot easier to achieve than it would've been before.

Another thought: if there's anyone who could find something sexy about insomnia, it might be you. Vignette idea? (Still hoping to inspire a Sirenia Digest entry one of these days...got to have goals...)

I think I would puke if I tried.

There is no Redemption in insomnia.

Definitely don't want to cause you to puke. Never mind, then.

Movies where the wold is soothingly black and white and grey.

Have you ever seen Wim Wenders' "Der Himmel über Berlin" (or "Wings of Desire" as they so very wrongly named it in english)? It's such a beautiful movie. The whole damn thing is like one long poem. That's my go-to, shades of gray, comfort movie. Netflix has it, but not on instant download.

That book cover is truly spectacular. I'm so glad I pre-ordered and secured my copy.

I have. It happens to be one of Kathyn's favorite movies. For my part, Wings of Desire is a fine English title. I don't think The Sky Over Berlin or Heaven Over Berlin would work half so well.

I'm so glad I pre-ordered and secured my copy.

I'm so glad that you did, too.

It just sounds like a cheap paperback romance to me. I get the same "that's so wrong!" reaction to it that I do to vapid-looking tramp-stamped heroines on the covers of your books. Not that I'm arguing, mind you, but that's just why it bothers me. Very sorry if that's a sore topic, but it's the best comparison I had.

I just never saw anyone object to the English title before.

You are correct that I didn't mention Strange Angels or Kink, which was because I hadn't actually read them (they are in the house and belong to The Lady) - although I did get concise synopses of their plots and had read the jacket blurbs (so I had least had an idea of what they were about). Still, going from reading one of her earlier novels, to reading her most recent, I did find it striking that the same theme would remain consistent over some nearly 20 years.

The good news? Spooky just found my riding crop.

I don't even want to know what shenanigans you got up to that would cause her to go seeking it out. Okay, actually, that's a lie. But whatever.

There are constant truths. I think The Drowning Girl is my first novel wherein love in not essentially doom. And then, only just barely.

Pain grounds me.

Judge the book by its cover. Please.

I would have absolutely picked this one up at the store based on the cover, but since I am pre-ordering, I won't have to! (Except to maybe look at it again.)
Beautiful on the front cover, and I love the photographs as well.

I doubt many bookshops will carry it.
