The End is Near

If gaming shit bores you, skip this. I won't be offended. I'm mostly writing it for me.

Setting aside the recycled cover fiasco with The Red Tree for a moment, I want to talk about World of Warcraft, and how my time with the game is growing short. I'll be playing for about another six weeks, then leaving WoW ( Read more... )

I've only been back in the game about six weeks after taking five years off (I never got past level 25 when I got the game in 2005.) So It'll be a little bit before I'm fed up with it, but I feel most of your points.

I guess I just want to try and get the $87 worth that I spent on expansions out of it before I bail.

I'll be trying out the Rift beta tonight myself, assuming the servers are unlocked.

(FWIW I've played around ten MMO's and they all did the holiday shit.)

Rift servers are unlocked, but currently experiencing difficulties.
I got to create my character and do a few missions. It looks amazing, so far. Hoping to get some time in late tonight.

No surprise there. Betas are usually quite rough. Especially when there's a lot of hype.

Well, I'm sorry to see you go. I still thoroughly enjoy the game; when I complain about it, it's more often because the failures stand out so sharply against what is mostly success ( ... )

3) On the flip side, heroics and raids are ridiculously hard. While I like challenges, running through the dungeon finder is an exercise in frustration, since you have the lowest common denominator that Blizz has been pandering to in solo content swarming the queue. There's a pretty major learning curve. Honestly, I'd feel bad for a new player, because you go from fairly easy normals to zomg!wtf heroics, and I don't really know how people learn -- especially with the "lol noob" attitude of many players now.

4) That's why I report every. single. instance. of hate speech I see. Blizzard can't reasonably monitor all the chat channels on all servers; that would just take a ridiculous amount of manpower. They have to rely on player reports. I do know that they will take action, but it may not be on the first report. That's why it's so important for people to report this crap (because most people I know complain in guild or whatever, but don't actually report it, and that does nothing).

I can't tolerate that game for more than five minutes before I need to log off. There's just something about it that pulsates with teenage insecurity and sex hormones. It's repulsive.

Typical Blizzard then? moto_chagatai February 16 2011, 06:36:01 UTC
Sounds like the path Warcraft took. The first and second games were awesome, innovative, and imagitative video games. then that third steaming pile hit shelves with it's individual heroes and total reversal of game dynamics. I never got into WOW just because the third game was sooo gods awful. The thought of what they might do to Diablo 3 scares me.
