Tired of Trying to Think Up a Subject Line

Yesterday, anaisembraced reminded me of a quote from one of Anaïs Nin's published diaries (1931-1934). It manages to say much more eloquently what I was trying to say yesterday about my need for a public persona ( Read more... )

I can't believe I haven't gone to Voodoo Donuts on either of my Portland trips yet. Third time's a charm! I did get to pop in Escential though, and plan to go again next year...

Spooky reminds me of C (in good ways!). I know what you mean about the importance of having someone at your side to help get you through various situations. It's good to have someone to lean on, and even better when love plays a big part in what's propping you up.

It's not an exaggeration to say she's kept me alive.

Your thoughts about Let Me In are my fear. It's too bad many "Americans" will only see this version and blame it on a fear of subtitles.

Fear of subtitles probably does factor into this, which is sad.

...create your own language...

Really? Seriously? Then OMG please please you gotta sign a book for me with "to a kindred spirit"! ;)

Actually, more than once your subject lines made me think of private language in the Heideggerian sense. Pearls before swine! Don't be tired on our behalves.

I think I will have to avoid Let Me In, though it may be a good film in some ways, as I feel that the gender of Eli should not be changed. I feel that if I did watch it I would be joining in with the homophobia and sexism that is way too prevalent in the world, and I do not wish to have that label stuck on me, even if it is in my own mind. It's my mind, and I can put what I want in it, thank you. The gender and the sexuality of a person is their own business, and if people are so small minded as to take some offense at the portrayal of such in any sort of art then I would not want to to stand alongside them. End of rant, and I think I will finally have to sit down and read Let The Right One In now, since I have finally managed to get a copy. Hope it is as good, if not better, than the film.

Some like it more, some about the same, some less. Me, I liked it less than the original film, simply because I think the novel's too long and makes explicit a lot of things that the film only implied. But I usually prefer that sort of thing. Regardless, it's a good book.

Yes, I agree, sometimes implied is better.
