A quick recap of the last two days.

Wednesday:

I spent most of Wednesday reading, it seems, which is rather nice, as I miss reading days. However, I was reminded why I never actually read the anthologies in which my stories appear. Casting about for something, I more-or-less randomly grabbed two books, The Children of Cthulhu (2002) and Weird ( Read more... )

doll slavery, books, jvp, days off, spooky and i, vacations, the sea, gaming, rhode island, reading, lovecraft, spring

Children of Cthulhu has some other stories worth reading, I thought. I quite liked some of them.

I really haven't read many of them, so I can't render an opinion on the anthology as a whole. I did read China Miéville's "Details," right after the book was released, and thought it awfully derivative of Charlotte Perkins Gilman's "The Yellow Wallpaper."

I thought so too.
I enjoyed Foster's "A Fatal Exception has Occurred", "The Firebrand Symphony" by Brian Hodge, and "Principals and Parameters" by Meredith L. Patterson.
Especially the Patterson.

I have no problem with one's influences showing, or even paying homage, but, in this case, "Details" just seemed a weak reworking of Gilman's story.

Especially the Patterson.

Then I shall have another look, at these pieces in particular.

tend not to involve the conquest of dark, outside forces by virile English policemen, but, rather, the other way round.

wrapt in newspaper and sprinkled with vinegar. mmm tasty.

Weird.

I've been halfway planning one for the next issue of the digest called "The Fishwife."

If yours involves a lone half-Deep One survivor of the massacre at Inssmouth and depth-bombing of Y'ha-N'thlei telling of her experiences during the late Civil Rights Era, as Lyndon Johnson's administration signs into law a Constitutional Amendment making in clear that the Bill of Rights applies to all American citizens regardless of race, nationality, or species...then I'm in trouble.
