The weather is quite a bit cooler today than on Sunday, which is a relief. We had rain yesterday, and might have rain again today.

By now, all subscribers should have Sirenia Digest #19 in their inboxes, as Spooky mailed it out last night. I do hope to see some feedback here, about "The Steam Dancer" and "The Daughter of the Four of Pentacles." ( Read more... )

I hope there will be more stories in the world of "The Steam Dancer." I loved it.

I think that is very likely.

I want to emphasize that I'm not being a smartass, and I'm nothing but respectful of your situation. However, if a certain albino someone did buy one of those remaindered copies upon finding it at his local Half Price Books outlet, not knowing how you got shafted out of your opportunity to buy it outright, would you have problems if he sent you the money for the difference? Or, if you won't take money, if he sent a package of interesting items with a roughly comparable value?

Neither is necessary. I ask only that, now that you know better, you not ever repeat this dreadful sin. ;-)

Just don't hit me again. I still can't move my entire left side on cold nights.

There is an explicit provision in my contracts with Penguin that allows me an opportunity to buy, at a significant discount, an unlimited number of any remaindered print run before stock is moved out of the warehouses and sold off to places like Chapter 11

This is a question posed on very shaky (yea, even flimsy) ground, but is it possible you could attempt to take action against the wholesalers for option to purchase the remaindered portions in their stock, due to the prior contractual agreements with your publisher? I understand the legal grounds might not be entirely stable, but at least you could maybe negotiate with the wholesalers for such an option. Businesses tend to get sweaty when you suggest litigation.

Alternatively, if we see one of these items, might we purchase it on your behalf and return it to you?

As far as I'm concerned, this is now ancient history, and the last thing I want to involve myself with at this point is litigation against anyone, no matter how in the right I might be. At this point, I consider it a lesson learned, and I will be more vigilant in the future.

You may, indeed. I would be very glad of such gifts.

I loved Daughter of Four Pentacles, even though I'm now mildly terrified about being trapped in purgatory. Thanks for that.

For some reason, Steam Dancer creeped me out. I don't know. I read the whole thing in one sitting the second it hit my inbox this morning, as usual, but parts of Steam Dancer made my skin crawl. Maybe it was the maggots.

Maybe it was the maggots.

Well, yeah. I suppose that could do it. I actually considered leaving the maggots out, because I feared they might skew the intended tone. Hmmm.

You're entirely welcome.

I didn't have a problem with the presence of the maggots. But this is coming from someone who discusses TB over dinner.

It's the sort of thing that doesn't bother me in the least, but I see how it could effect other people. I fear the fact that I even thought about the maggots changing how the story is perceived by readers is a sure sign I'm "getting old."

Hm. No Sirenia #19 in my mailbox yet. Who do I contact to request a re-send? (I'm the only subscriber with an email address @andyhat.net, if you can investigate from here). Thanks.

Sorry. I'll have Spooky chek on that straight away!
