a January of Awakenings

Yesterday, I did 1,529 words, which I count as none too shabby. Also, I worked on an interview for a local paper (more on this later), which I need to finish up today.

When the work was done, we drove over to Borders on Ponce de Leon, because it was January 2nd and I felt some vague duty to actually see copies of Daughter of Hounds and the mmp of Read more... )

The Barnes and Noble in Manchester, CT had both (4 of each) titles in the SF&F section. I picked up a copy of DoH and am eagerly awaiting being let out of this rusty cage around my cube and getting a chance to read it. In a bit of synchronicity, we also picked up a copy of The Prestige on that trip.

I keep thinking of the Chuck Palahniuk fans who started making their own covers for one of his hardcover books. Don't know if that'd work for trade paperbacks, unfortunately...

Hey, maybe there could be an on-line show: people create their own Caitlin covers! I'd love to see what setsuled would come up with. I was going to say "contest," but that would probably be more work than it's worth; you're busy and all.

Well at least in horror your next to the King and I do not count that as a bad place to be.

Yeah, that's a little disappointing, especially since Border's is savvy enough to split up Poppy's work so that the Liquor series is in Literature while her horror stuff is still in Horror. (As much as I boost local bookstore-done-good Powell's, I cringe at seeing Liquor in Horror there.)

Your Borders has a horror section? Ours in L.A. disappeared ages ago. There's still F&SF, but not horror. They blended it all into the Literary section. I wrote a letter years ago to them about it. Got a call from someone saying, "This is a great letter! I'm forwarding it to VP Wotshisname." To which I responded, "Great! Thanks!" all the while making a wanking motion.

I'm over now. I think.

Just got DoH today - due to my habit of ordering more books than I can pay etc, I had to borrow money from boyfriend to get Amazon to ship it to me :P Looking forward to reading it!
